NorthConnex tunnel project provides the long-awaited link between the M1 Pacific Motorway and the Hills M2 Motorway in Sydney, Australia. Delivered by Transurban and the M7 Shareholders, the tunnel constructed by the Lendlease and Bouygues joint venture (LLBJV) officially opened on the 31st of October 2020. Layer 2 Intelligence and our partners SYSTRA Scott Lister were engaged in May 2020 to support the Systems Engineering and Integration process.
L2iQ and SYSTRA were responsible for developing Detailed Design Verification Matrices and Requirements Traceability Matrices to demonstrate compliance and end-to-end traceability against the contract requirements for the Traffic Management Control Systems and Operational Management Control Systems. The team also provided test readiness reviews for each subsystem including CCTV, Signs, Intelligent Vehicle Loop Detectors as well as Operational Systems such as the Operational SCADA systems. L2iQ team members supported our client LLBJV in the management and streamlining of workflow between the broader project team and the Kapsch team both locally and in the United States.
L2iQ working closely with Kapsch Traffic Com and Transport for New South Wales successfully commissioned an enhanced version of the Centre to Centre (C2C) RMS interface with the greater TfNSW motorway operational and business systems. The new interface between the NorthConnex and the Transport Management Center allows for integration of NorthConnex traffic management devices as well as an Incident Event data service which will aim to provide a better integrated roads network for all Sydney road users.
NorthConnex was a great opportunity for the L2iQ team to apply their Systems Engineering and Management expertise to a road project. Thank you to our team members Wayne Cooney, Jeffrey Espiritu, Ben Jackson, Sherwin Fernando, Jerome Borg, Zachary Mason and our partners SYSTRA Scott Lister for your contribution to this project and thank you to our colleagues at Lendlease and Bouygues.
